What You Will Learn

A child works up the courage to tell you something terrible. You have minutes to respond — and what you say can either help or hurt, both the child and the official investigation that may follow.

Most people have never been trained for this moment. This course changes that.

You'll learn how to respond in a way that makes the child feel believed and safe — and how to ask questions that are genuinely helpful rather than inadvertently suggestive or leading. The course explains the specific types of questions that are problematic and why, what "reward questions" are and how to use them, and how to handle the tension between your relationship with the child and your responsibility as a mandated reporter.

Throughout the course, case studies and reflections help you practice applying these principles to realistic scenarios — so that when the moment comes, you respond with confidence rather than uncertainty.
