General Principles of Mandated Reporting
Mandated reporting laws vary by state — and getting it wrong has serious consequences. Learn to spot reportable situations, research your jurisdiction's rules, and fulfill your legal obligations.
Mandated reporting laws are not one-size-fits-all. Every state has different rules about who must report, what must be reported, where to report, and what penalties apply for failing to do so. If you work with children and don't know the specifics for your jurisdiction, you are at risk — and so are the children in your care.
This two-part course gives you a practical foundation for understanding mandated reporting wherever you are. You'll learn how to research the laws in your state, how to identify situations that may trigger a reporting obligation, and how to recognize the signs of physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and emotional abuse.
Throughout the course, detailed case studies walk you through real-world scenarios — with structured reflection time to help you develop the judgment to act confidently when the situations aren't textbook-clear.
You'll also learn how to respond to a child's disclosure in a way that supports both the child and any official investigation that follows.
This is essential training for anyone working with youth, regardless of your role or your state.
